We are thrilled to announce the relaunch of our annual Slow Melody, Duet, and Quartet Contest on Saturday, October 5, 2024!

After a four-year hiatus, we are delighted to bring this prestigious event back to the banding community.

Classes

Slow Melody:

  1. 11 and Under*
  2. 14 and Under*
  3. 16 and Under*
  4. Open Age
  5. Veterans over 40*

Duet:

  1. Junior Duets Under 16*
  2. Open Age Duets

Quartet:

  1. Junior Quartets Under 16*
  2. Open Age Quartets

Tuned Percussion Solo:

  1. Junior Under 16*
  2. Open Age

Entry fees (incl. accompanist):

Age restricted solos (Class, 1,2,3,10): £8

Adult solos (Class 4,5,11): £10

Duets (Class 6,7): £15

Quartets (Class 8,9): £25

The contest will be Open Adjudication. Piano accompaniment & warm up facilities available.

All sections will be pre-drawn.

Keepsake and annual trophies will be presented to all winners. Winners will also have the opportunity to perform as a guest soloist with the Elland Silver Band at a future concert.

Rules

  1. All entry forms, music & payments should be emailed to ellandband@hotmail.co.uk. Entries made online using the form above will automatically be emailed to us. Payments can be made via card payment link. Closing date for entries is Friday 6th September. Any entries received after the closing date will not be accepted. The pre draw will take place on Monday 9th September.
  2. All fees are non-refundable.
  3. Please send a pdf piano accompaniment with your entry. Solos & duets can be played with or without accompaniment. MP3 accompaniment can also be used and should be supplied with your entry.
  4. All music must be legible & clearly marked with cuts/repeats etc. If no accompaniment or backing track is received by the closing date, then the piece will be played unaccompanied. Players can bring their own accompanists, but please indicate clearly you are doing so.
  5. Please bring adjudicator’s music with you on the day and hand to the adjudicator when you go to play. Music should be legible and clearly marked with cuts/repeats etc.
  6. Competitors do not have to be registered with a brass band & duet/quartet players do not have to belong to the same band.
  7. Players can play in more than one solo class, duet or quartet class.
  8. Quartets can be conducted.
  9. Percussion equipment will be provided and entrants will be sent a percussion list. Competitors may bring their own equipment not on the list.
  10. Photocopies can’t be returned & will be destroyed in accordance with copyright laws.
  11. All winners’ trophies must be signed for by a responsible adult.
  12. All adjudication is OPEN & the adjudicator’s decision is final.
  13. Annual trophies must be returned 2 week’s prior to the 2025 contest.
  14. Engraving of Annual Trophies to be undertaken by the winner before returning.
  15. Please note we will only use your information for the purposes it has been provided and will not share your information with any third parties without your prior consent.

Details of the draw and directions will be sent about 2 weeks before the competition. Competitors will also be informed of their pianist and will be free to contact the pianist to arrange rehearsals should they wish. This would be a private arrangement and would incur a charge at the pianist’s own rate.

NB: Accompanists may not be available for rehearsals, due to their own commitments.
